An Education Framework

Community Unification for Education Excellence (CUEE) is pleased to have sponsored the work of the Education Planning Committee. While CUEE strongly believes that children and the community will be best served by a single school system, the work of this Committee is unrelated to the issue of merging districts. Its sole purpose is to demonstrate the worth of educators, community members, business and civic leaders coming together, sharing ideas, agreeing and disagreeing and forging a framework that can be viewed as a “voice” for the children. While the Committee fully recognizes that its role is not one of governance, it hopes public officials will take cognizance of the value of genuine collaboration between its public schools and the community they serve.

The Committee has wrestled with fundamental ideas about children and education, often starting with little in common but a desire to improve their educational outcomes. Whatever the disagreements, the Committee has reached consensus on what it means for this community to enable every child to successfully meet the highest standards.

Our fervent hope, whatever the voters decide, is that the establishment of this framework is only the beginning of a fruitful and productive relationship between our citizens and their schools.

The completion of this framework is not an end. The truly difficult work is ahead. Fundamental change is not simply putting words to paper; it means changing what we imagine is possible for children. We dedicate this framework to our community with sincere gratitude and admiration for each member of the Education Planning Committee who worked diligently to make it possible.
